It’s that time of year again, when all us writers of speculative fiction gather to discuss literary matters dark and strange, to buy lots of books and to celebrate outstanding achievements in the genre. This year I’m delighted to be taking part in a panel – details below – as well as reading from my debut collection of short stories, Skein and Bone and launching the collection, alongside Undertow Publication’s brilliant new anthology, Aikman’s Heirs.
The British Fantasy Convention 2015 will take place from the 23rd – 25th October 2015 at the East Midlands Conference Centre and Orchard Hotel in Nottingham.
Friday 23rd October
Room: Suite 1
6.00pm: Panel – Fae-Fi, Folk-Fum: Faerie & Folktale
Faerie tales, myths & legends are part of the fabric of the British Isles; our folktales are full of strange places, creatures and practices. This panel examines how traditional tales are influencing contemporary fantasy, horror and supernatural storytelling.
• urban gothic: the city’s ‘dark layer’
• the mystical wilderness: the influence of rural landscape on our sense of the supernatural
• depictions of faerie folk, elves, goblins and other ‘little-people’
• ritual, magick and pagan influences
